When broken by life
Left in pieces on the ground
Bring them together
And the places you've been shattered
Will glitter like gold
In times of trouble when we're threatened by the dehumanizing, barbaric brutality surrounding us we need a place of refuge--a space where we can rest and revitalize and process our feelings of rage, grief, and vulnerability. At Stanford's People's University for Palestine we gathered for a moment of peace in making kintsugi--breaking a pot and putting it back together highlighting the cracks with gold lacquer.
In quiet reflection and artistic creation we enact the process of courageously opening our heart, having it broken and making it whole again. Grounding ourselves, feeling clarity about our mission, and regaining our humanity. In community we connect with ourselves and others more deeply, drawing strength from one another to persevere in our actions.
